Columbus Day. Vintage accessories for sea voyages

Eligibility

There are active Mayflower societies in all fifty U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Canada, Europe, and Australia.

When you join any one of these societies, you automatically become a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants.

You do not need to be a Massachusetts resident to join the Massachusetts Society of Mayflower Descendants — membership is open to individuals from any state or country.

Interested in why so many choose Massachusetts? See our Member Benefits for the unique advantages of joining MSMD.

Membership Requirements

To become a member of the Massachusetts Society of Mayflower Descendants, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Lineal Descent:
You must be a direct descendant of a passenger who arrived on the Mayflower in 1620.
See our list of Mayflower Passengers with Known Descendants to verify eligibility below.
  • Documented Lineage:
You will need to prove your lineage by submitting a formal application, vital records, along with the appropriate application fee and dues. Our Historian will provide guidance during this part of the process.
  • Adoption Policy:
Because MSMD is a lineage-based society, applicants who were adopted must trace and document their ancestry through their biological (birth) parents in order to qualify for membership.
