Junior Membership
A special membership for children of members under age 23
Looking to join the ranks of the Mayflower Society without having all your genealogical ducks in a row just yet? Well, there’s a special pathway for those of you under 23!
The Massachusetts Society of Mayflower Descendants (MSMD), along with 47 other state societies, proudly offers a Junior Member Affiliation for descendants of Mayflower passengers.
As our bylaws proudly proclaim:
“Anyone from birth to age 23 may be awarded an undocumented membership through an application submitted by an adult family member of the Society who has already been admitted to membership and whose membership is active.”
This means Junior Members are like VIPs on their way to full membership—no General Society number just yet, but they’re still part of the family!
Here’s a peek into what being a Junior Member entails:
- You’ll have a unique Junior State Number (like MSMD J 0052)
- While you won’t receive the Mayflower Quarterly, you’ll get the cool Junior Compact newsletter
- Other age appropriate materials
- Invitations to junior-focused activities from Massachusetts or the General Society
Transition to Annual or Life Membership
- Junior Members may convert to Life Membership at any time by submitting the required lineage papers, completed by the sponsor member, and receiving approval from both the State and General Historians.
- Or at age 18, a Junior Member may apply for Annual Membership, provided their lineage is documented and approved.
- If a Junior Member has not transitioned by age 23, their Junior Membership will expire.
