Annual and Life Members

When you apply for membership, there is an application fee of $350 that must accompany the application form. At this time you may decide whether to become a regular annual member or a Life member. The annual member pays annual dues: the first year is paid when the applicant signs the final application form. The current annual dues are $95.

The application form is three pages. The first page is for the contact information. The second page is the explanation of the fees and a place to list your chosen options. The third page is for the synopsis that is your lineage starting with the Mayflower passenger down to the applicant. Feel free to make as many copies of this form as you need, but only submit one lineage when applying for membership.

Life membership is optional for adultst. If you elect to join as a Life member, there is a one-time fee as listed in the schedule below. There is an option to pay half with the application fee with the remaining half due at the signing the final application form. Any annual member may upgrade to Life member at any time.

Life Fee Schedule

Under 40  $1500
 Age 40-59  $1250
 Age 60-79  $1000
 Over 80  $500

Supplemental Applications

We encourage those who are already members to officially document additional lines. The one-time fee for each supplemental processed is $300. As with applying initially, please submit only one supplemental line at a time. Once one has been approved, you can submit another. Having supplemental lines does not increase your yearly dues.

Junior Membership

The Massachusetts Society of Mayflower Descendants joins 47 other states in offering the Junior Member Affiliation.

As stated in our bylaws, "Anyone from birth to age 25 may be awarded an undocumented membership through an application submitted by an adult family member of the Society who has already been admitted to membership and whose membership is active.” These Junior Members are not members of the General Society: they themselves have not filed documented lineage papers. They are not assigned a General Society or regular State Society number, only a Junior State Number (e.g. MSMD J-52). The State Society determines what annual dues or fees are charged, currently $100 to join. No fees are paid to the General Society. Junior members do not receive the Mayflower Quarterly [but they do receive the Junior Compact and Compact newsletters].

Junior members may convert to Life Membership at any age as long as the usual lineage papers are executed by the sponsor member on their behalf and the papers are approved by both the State and General Historians. They may not vote or hold office until they reach 18. At age 18 a Junior Member may transfer to Regular membership in the State Society where Junior Membership is held provided the usual lineage papers are completed and approved. Transfer is encouraged at least by age 25 because if they don’t, at that age they will be dropped by the State Society.

Juniors may only join the MSMD by becoming Life members (see Annual and Life Members, above). While full life membership is available to every lineal descendant,  this program allows current MSMD members to apply for Junior Membership on behalf of any minor who is a blood relative. There is a one time fee of $1,500.00 to enroll a Junior Life Member. Activities for juniors, sponsored by MSMD and/or GSMD, will be advertised regularly in the Compact. Since children in our public schools generally study the Mayflower Story in the primary grades, this program will help foster an early interest in their ancestry and also foster an interest in life membership in the Society.

Friends of the Pilgrims

We encourage family, friends, and those interested in the Mayflower Society to join Friends of the Pilgrims with a one-time donation of $150.00 for an Adult Friend (over 18), or $75.00 for a Junior Friend. (At 18, a Junior Friend may become an Adult with an additional donation of $75.00.)

Friends will be sent a special Friends of the Pilgrims pin and a certificate. These pins are enameled with red and blue, showing an engraving of the Mayflower vessel. Each new Friend of the Pilgrims is recognized in our newsletter, The Compact.

Copies

The office can do limited copying if you know we have a book and you provide the author and title. It is 50 cents per page plus $2 postage and handling. To see what books we have in the office, please check our library inventory online. We only accept checks, so your request will need to be in writing. Please make your check payable to "MSMD."

If you are a member and would like another copy of your application form with all the documents, there is a standard copying charge of $10 set by the General Society.
